Hacienda La Puente Unified Community Invited to 2020 State of the District

HACIENDA HEIGHTS – Community members are invited to join Hacienda La Puente Unified School District to celebrate the many accomplishments of 2019 and unveil their vision for growth during the 2020 State of the District presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

The District, which serves more than 18,000 students, is recognized for its rigorous, robust program of core college preparatory academics, diverse career technical education programs, intense STEAM curriculum and engaging arts and enrichment offerings.

Recent achievements include providing classroom laptops for every student, a focus on 21st century instruction and expansion of immersion programs in Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and computer coding.

The state’s most recent California Schools Dashboard testifies to the District’s effectiveness, awarding “green” level ratings for graduation rates, college/career preparation and state test performance in math and English language arts.

In addition, Mesa Robles School and Wedgeworth Elementary have been named California Distinguished Schools – adding to a long list of such honors for Hacienda La Puente schools.

“We are thrilled to host our community as we review the successes of our amazing students and look to tackle new opportunities and challenges in the year to come,” Interim Superintendent Annie Bui said. “Hacienda La Puente is always growing, exploring and developing new ways to ensure our students are prepared for their next educational journey, and our community partners are critical to that mission.”

The event will begin with a performance from Los Altos High School’s choir at 5:45 p.m. Light refreshments will also be served. A hallmark of the annual event is raucous applause and heartfelt cheering as district leaders recount student, teacher and staff accomplishments.

“It’s fitting that, every year, all of our schools are celebrated for at least one significant milestone,” Bui said. “We are continually impressed by our students, every goal they pursue and every hurdle they overcome.”

The State of the District will be held at the Hacienda Heights Community Center, 1234 Valencia Ave., Hacienda Heights.
