Code the the Future:

Preparing Students Today for the Jobs of Tomorrow

Code to the Future

It is the district’s goal that, upon graduation, all students will be prepared for high-growth, high-demand jobs of the future.  In pursuit of this mission, the Board of Education launched a computer sciences immersion program in partnership with Code To The Future (CTTF). CTTF prepares students to thrive in the 21st century economy as they develop critical problem solving skills to be creative contributors and producers in an increasingly interconnected society.  In 2016-17, two elementary schools participated in a Spring pilot that became the first of Cohort I. The subsequent Fall, HLPUSD forged ahead with full implementation of Code as a Light House District with the addition of five elementary sites. The following year, CTTF expanded to include two middle schools. In 2019-20, five new schools, four elementary and one middle, comprise Cohort II, for a total of 12 participating schools, 14 programs, serving over 4,800 students, districtwide.
